Did you know that just 2 in 5 (43.4%) children and young people aged 8 to 18 said they enjoyed reading in their free time in 2023. This is the lowest level since 2005!
Not reading at the expected level puts children at an increased risk of experiencing unemployment and poor health as adults.
One reason that children and young people do not read in their spare time is because they struggle to read and comprehend the story’s meaning.
That is why we have developed Super-readers!
Super-readers is a 15 week programme starting in February 2024, which will work with children aged 8-12 on an individual basis to develop their reading skills and boost their confidence!
Children may be provided with phonetic support as well as blending and segmenting support; however, this depends on their reading stage.
A typical session will consist of creating new adventures and discussing different worlds that we can get lost in whilst reading and sharing a story together, this story will then be taken home and be expected to be shared with at home with an adult. The child should share this story at home for at least five minutes per day, this is enough to begin to encourage the enjoyment we gain from reading.
A Super-readers session will last one hour and will be based at our premises (To be Announced!). Super-readers allows children to gain the skills and confidence they need to not only read and enjoy books but to gain the skills they need in the real world - reading shopping lists, reading bus routes and even supports with SAT preparation.
The Super-readers programme is £40 and includes all 15 sessions as well as books and resources that will be provided for your child.
